Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maria Bryceland, a culture and leadership coach based in Manchester, Cheshire, England.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work with businesses and individuals to help them achieve their full potential and thrive.
Tell us about yourself
My purpose is to help people enjoy a better quality of work life by improving workplace cultures. I enjoy supporting businesses to transform or develop their culture and enabling people to achieve their full potential. A happy side effect of this is improving a business's profitability and financial success.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Finding the balance - you don't know 'balance' until you have met 'imbalance'! As a business owner, I am always looking to find a balance of activity so that I can work at my best, constantly enjoy what I do, and also spend a good amount of time on my own hobbies, personal development, rest, and with my family.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being a business owner when you're responsible for everything - sales, marketing, admin, finance, customer service, etc. Ensuring you get the right people to help and support you - I am incredibly lucky with that.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be true to yourself and your purpose! Offer a service or product that you believe in and are passionate about.
Stay focused and committed, and be selective about who you listen to.
It can be scary making the leap from employment to self-employment, but if you have clear goals and understand why you want to do it, then believe in yourself. Know what you want, and 100% go for it!
